In this study, 21 healthy young adults had a high-fat or low-fat breakfast. Just 1.5 hours later, they took part in an 8-minute mental stress task. Researchers then measured various factors, including blood flow in the carotid artery and oxygenation in the brain’s prefrontal cortex.

โ€ข Mental stress increased heart rate, blood pressure, and brain oxygenation.
โ€ข However, after a high-fat breakfast, the increase in brain oxygenation during stress was reduced.
โ€ข The type of meal (high-fat vs. low-fat) did not change cardiovascular responses.
โ€ข This research is pioneering as it suggests that consuming high-fat foods during stressful times might affect how our brain receives oxygen.
